From this base, the areas around Lake Torneträsk are the primary spots for hunting. North of Torneträsk lies several classic hunting grounds, including the area around Ribasjavri. This area is closed to hunting during the first few weeks of the season, and when it opens (September 16), hunting is quota-controlled and usually fully booked during the first week.
South of Torneträsk, the valleys along Abisko towards Norway, as well as Alesjaure and Rautasjaure, offer excellent habitats for ptarmigan.

STF Abisko is the Swedish Tourist Association’s largest mountain station in terms of capacity and offerings. It provides 377 beds with varying standards, from simpler rooms and cabins to hotel rooms.
