Abisko

Welcome to Abisko – Home of the Lapporten and the Northern Lights!

It was the construction of the Malmbanan railway at the turn of the last century that brought the first settlers to the wilderness on the southern shore of Lake Torneträsk, about 25 mil (250 km) north of the Arctic Circle. After the railway was completed, one of the houses was purchased by the Swedish Tourist Association (STF). Today, STF’s Abisko station is their largest facility, offering nearly 400 beds.

Abisko is arguably Sweden’s premier wilderness tourism hub, offering a wide range of experiences set against a backdrop of vast, breathtaking landscapes. It is also the start—or the end—of the famous Kungsleden hiking trail.

Abiskojaure – Accessible for All

About 10 km southwest of Abisko lies the mountain lake Abiskojaure. This area offers spectacular views and is home to the Abiskojaure cabins, located just off the Kungsleden trail. The STF-operated facility offers over 50 beds, a shop, and services for guests camping nearby. Since 2017, the cabins have been fully accessible for people with disabilities.

We offer flights to (and from) Abiskojaure, providing you with stunning views of the mighty Kiruna mountain range along the way.

Lapporten Helicopter Tour

See the iconic gateway that has become synonymous with the Swedish mountain landscape — from a perspective few have experienced. The peaks of Nissuntjårro and Tjuonatjåkka, standing at 1540 and 1721 meters above sea level respectively, together form the famous “Lapporten,” located about 10 kilometers from Abisko.

Experiencing this majestic valley and towering peaks from a helicopter offers an unforgettable combination of views. During the tour, you will also get a stunning overview of the surrounding mountains and Torneträsk, Scandinavia’s largest mountain lake.

Låktastugan – We Take You to Sweden’s Highest Restaurant

Nestled between two mountain peaks at 1,228 meters above sea level, Låktatjåkka Mountain Station offers a unique experience. Enjoy everything from waffles and bar snacks to two-course dinners, sauna baths, and accommodation in single or double rooms.

Visiting Låktatjåkka is an experience in itself, and the mountain station is open during the spring winter and summer seasons.

Troll Lake – Fly to Sweden’s Clearest and Purest Lake!

Rissajaure, better known as Troll Lake, is a mountain lake located between Abisko and Riksgränsen. At the end of the Kärkevagge valley (Stendalen), surrounded by steep cliffs, visitors can marvel at Sweden’s purest and clearest waters. The lake has an exceptional visibility depth of 36 meters to the bottom — and theoretically even deeper.

Stendalen itself is a natural attraction, with massive boulders and lush green areas during the summer months. The scenery here sometimes resembles scenes from the “Lord of the Rings” movies.

Fly with us to Troll Lake and enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain wilderness in the “Abisko Alps” as well as a magnificent aerial view of Torneträsk.
