Kungsleden Stage 1

This world-famous hiking trail stretches all the way from Abisko to Hemavan, about 450 kilometers away. The trail is divided into stages, and the first stage runs between Abisko and Abiskojaure. Along this 13.8 km section, you will follow the Abiskojåkka River, walk through mountain birch forests, and pass by Lake Abiskojaure. On both sides of the trail, there are STF cabins offering accommodation and other services. The trail is considered moderately difficult and typically takes about 3–5 hours to hike.

Kungsleden is a popular choice for hiking, backpacking, camping, and birdwatching.

Kungsleden Stage 2

The second stage of Kungsleden is 20.3 km long and is considered a more challenging trail, typically taking about 5 hours to complete. The elevation gain is approximately 600 meters along the route. The stage starts at Abiskojaure and ends at the Alesjaure mountain cabins. From these cabins, you can expect views of barren mountain plateaus and high peaks.

Along the trail, you will encounter grassy terrain, but not until after climbing the ascent up Kieronbacken. Once completed, you can look forward to mountain lakes, towering peaks, and refreshing nature.

Upon arrival at Alesjaure, you can spend the night in one of the STF mountain cabins and then continue down Kungsleden. Besides the views, the STF cabins also offer sauna, kitchen facilities, and a small shop with provisions.

Abiskojaure – Kårsavagge

A shorter but challenging trail stretching from Abiskojaure to Kårsavagge. The route is 7.7 km long and is estimated to take about 3.5 hours to hike. Less frequented than Kungsleden, it’s perfect for those who love the tranquility of the mountains. Expect breathtaking views of mountain landscapes, valleys, and glacier lakes!

Waiting for you on the other side is the STF Kårsavagge mountain cabin, offering beds and kitchen facilities.
