Fishing for Arctic Char
Fishing for Arctic char in the mountains is an experience that can be both calming and heart-pounding. Char thrive in deep, cold lakes and flowing streams, and are prized for their taste, vivid color, and the challenge they offer. Fly fishing and spin fishing are the most common techniques for targeting char. To succeed, preparation, the right gear, and local knowledge are key — and don’t forget to purchase the required fishing permits before you begin.
Fishing for Trout
Trout prefer waters with rocky and gravelly bottoms. While the largest specimens are often found in bigger lakes, trout can be caught in nearly all types of waters. Like Arctic char, the most common fishing methods are spin fishing and fly fishing. Trout spawn between August and November in shallow waters with gravel bottoms, typically 40–100 cm deep. It’s said that trout are most eager to bite during dawn and dusk.
Fishing for Salmon
Salmon fishing may be what draws the most anglers to the mountains. The salmon is a beautiful fish, highly prized for its red flesh and rich flavor. Salmon are primarily caught in rivers and streams with deep, fast-moving water. Their spawning season runs from October to December, a time when they are particularly active. As with other game fish, fly fishing and spin fishing are the most common and effective methods.
Fishing for Grayling
Grayling can be found in the same waters as its salmonid relatives. Clear, cold, and flowing streams are its preferred habitat. Fly fishing and spin fishing are once again the most commonly used and effective methods for catching grayling. During summer and early autumn, grayling is especially active, with dawn and dusk offering the best chances for success.
Don’t forget to obtain the required fishing permits before you begin your fishing adventure.
